First things first: I know I have new readers, so, whether you follow this blog regularly, drop by occasionally or just arrived here by chance, welcome! I'm very happy to have you. And for my "old" readers, thanks for sticking around, I'm very happy to have you also.
So, now to business: The hunt is ON. The hunt for what, you'll be wondering. Answer: I'm looking for a new singing teacher. I know some will think this is insanity, since not so long ago I was happy with the one I had, and anyway I'll be back in New York sooner than not. To cut a very long story short, I'll say that, before going to Adler, I was beginning to feel disatisfied (and even frustrated) with my classes. And voice classes at Adler were simply a revelation for me. I regained my motivation, discovered new possiblities, boosted my self-confidence, fell in love with voice work once again... so, why would I want my old classes back?
Hence, I asked recommendations from every singer/regie/musical person I know. I researched online. I made a few phone calls. Tomorrow I'm meeting one teacher, and another next week. I have two other possibilities I'm not so wild about, but may still resort to.
Anyway, I'm amazed by how, even in a city as musical as Buenos Aires (home to the famed Colón theatre), once I got very specific as to my goals and needs, my options narrowed enormously. Some teachers I felt taught way to many things (and we all know what the say about Jack of all Trades). Some didn't look professional enough. Others I discarded after hearing on the phone (sounded like the same type of teacher I used to have). But, if this is the corollary to my feeling empowered, knowledgeable and self-confident, so be it. I should say that, when I find the perfect match, my growth is going to be exponential.
