What are you made of?

I've meant to write before, but I didn't because... insert list of valid excuses here. I'm sure you're not interested, so let's get down to what counts, shall we?

I'm philosophical today... When you spend time on your own, as I am doing now, getting down to thinking is inevitable. Almost a month has gone by since I arrived (time flyies), so it makes sense to draw some conclusions.

If this trip has done anything for me, is make me see who I am. When you have to make desitions on your own every day, you discover (or confirm) differnt aspects of your personality. To anyone wanting to know what they are made of, I suggest that they pack their stuff and take a plane (or bus) somewhere. You don't need to do like I did and go to the opposite end of the continent. But the fact of starting a new life somewhere, even if only for a short while, will certainly be illuminating. Scary? Sometimes. Exciting? Always.

I'm learning and growing up all the time. I'm proud of me, because I've come this far. I'm also very greatful for how people are accepting me here. If NYC is not the most foreigner friendly city on Earth, it's certainly in the top 10. So far, everywhere I've been I've always felt welcome. The difference is that here people don't treat you like a guest. So that really helps make me feel home.

On a different note, I'm a very proud big sister today, because my sibling had her last class and is now only a thesis away from graduating as an animated film director. I saw a still of one of her shorts, and it looks so professional. Congrats, kiddo!!
